When you are starving remember this saying…

Too Hungry

Do you ever get so hungry you eat twice as much food and have strong cravings for foods you normally do not eat? I’m guess you have and you are not alone.

Remember this saying, “when starving, it does not mean to eat a lot food, it means to eat soon.”

We all heard people say, “I am so hungry that I could eat a horse”, well that does not mean to go stuff your face with a ton of food to feel full again. You should drop what you are doing and go eat something healthy and focus on eating for energy – about 80% full. You do not want to eat so much to where you feel like you need to unbutton your pants.

Waiting to eat until you are starving can prevent you from making good and healthy food choices. Also, eating too much and too fast will set you up for overeating and consuming extra unwanted calories.

Chances are higher that you will go grab office donuts, greasy fast food, convenient candy bars or protein bars packed with sugar to satisfy the strong empty feeling in your stomach.

I often hear people say, “oh, I had to stop for a cinnamon roll because I was starving and it sounded so good.” Really? You may enjoy those minutes eating it, but the long torturous hours that follow is not worth it.

Try to plan ahead:

To prevent this from happening, keep a bag of raw mixed nuts handy. If that bores you, add dark chocolate pieces to it. Green apples are easy to keep with you on the go as well. I love green apple with raw almond butter.  Protein bars are good too, but you have to watch the sugar in most of them – check the ingredients list. It is best to make your own protein bars; there are a ton of good recipes on the internet.

There are ways to keep those sugary cravings from happening, which will be next week’s post; be sure you stay connected.
