DON’T LET 2022 BE GROUNDHOG DAY!

Stop 2022 from being like 2021, 2020, 2019, 2018…….

DID YOU KNOW: When you are in a conversation with someone, there are actually 6 people in the conversation?

  1. Who you both show each other you are
  2. Who you each think you are.
  3. Who you both really are

Each of us are in the process of being and becoming. We have two halves. Today, in 2022, you are the sum total of what you’ve experienced, thought, said, felt, and done.  You’re fully conscious of it, but it’s true. Psyche and your sense of self are programmed in from day 1 eliciting a way of processing information and causing you to follow certain patterns. That’s one half.
The bigger and better part, the other half, is your potential. Everything you’re capable of, can ask, or imagine.  However, what you can imagine can be radically hindered by your view of life now based on that first 50%. Therefore, you need to recalibrate or it becomes Groundhog Day (If you haven’t seen the movie, definitely find it).

While filmmakers say that Bill Marray’s character went through Groundhog Day for 10 years, the original script writer said it was a 10,000-year loop. Psychologist love to discuss this reference as due to our own patterns, mental models, and subsequent cognitive biases our whole lives can end up on a loop that can feel like 10,000 years.

Without a dynamic shift in perspective and mental models, we will just keep experiencing similar limitations and outcomes. You can try harder and harder, pivot into different activities, and invest in multiple mediums but the results end up roughly the same if you do not do the deep-work to substantively recalibrate.

Our normalcy bias expects life to get back to normal and for things to naturally get better. The reality is, we have to shatter our patterns. While you could get lucky, win the lottery, or have a youtube video go viral, avoiding 10,000 years of the same result usually requires one simple step: connect with people that have the results that you want.

To truly recalibrate and make the 2nd half parabolically better than the 1st half without restriction by experience we have to come to the realization that some of what those with better outcomes are doing will seem risky or wrong. Remember: It’s comfort, safety, and the same results or change, risk, and reward.
