CHIROPRACTIC AND THE VITAMIN D CRAZE
Early in my career, I learned two things about the power of a chiropractic adjustment that really escalated my confidence and certainty when communicating to others about the need to get care and stay under care for life:
1. It is impossible to get adjusted without being better. Every time you get adjusted you are a better mother, a better father, a better boss, a better team member, a better golfer, a better fireman, a better politician, a better police officer, a better teacher, a better baseball player, a better husband, a better wife, and on and on.
2. Maintaining the healthiest spine and nervous system possible gives you your best chance. Your best chance against disease, your best chance at long life, your best chance despite your diet, your best chance no matter your genetics, your best chance regardless of your environment, and on and on.
While I believed the above 2 points more as an idealist at first, now after 27 years in chiropractic and looking at the research and study behind the impact of a chiropractic adjustment, I have found them to be patently true or in fact, absolutes.
HERE’S WHAT’S MISSING TO MAXIMIZE THE ODDS!
With the knowledge above, I built my own dozen clinics, opened up over 100 more, and coached 1000s. Here’s what’s missing – how do we keep improving our odds? Many chiropractors and their patients who were definitely given their best chance, struggle badly with their health or die young.
I’m not a gambler. I always lose in Vegas (other then that one time on a cruise in craps). Therefore, I’m looking for the best possible odds. An important way to improve your odds is understand your body’s unique needs.
For instance, we know that Vitamin D is a critical nutrient for virtually all cellular activity and genetic function. While an unsubluxated person with low Vitamin D has their best chance of surviving, what about an unsubluxated person who has looked at there Vit D genes and levels?
A common, series of gene variants (SNPs) related to Vitamin D can cause you to have a poor affinity for Vit D absorption. You can be taking Vit D, getting sun, getting adjusted, and think you’re doing great – yet have critically low levels.
Active vitamin D (1,25(OH)2D3) regulates the expression of more than 900 genes. These genes provide for a vast and critical array of different physiological functions related to immunity. Low Vitamin D causes greater susceptibility to infections, inflammatory disease, related illnesses like cancer, depression, heart disease, and auto-immune disease.1
Get adjusted and you’ll have your best chance at dealing with low D and/or poor genetic function leading to problems with D levels or many other nutrient or health issues. Every time you get adjusted you’ll have a better chance. For my family, patients, and myself I’ll improve our odds more considerably and test the genes and D levels for an even better chance at good and lasting health.
