Do you brush off avoiding toxins in your own home? Maybe you are not aware of how critical the impact is to your body and health.
Let me put this into perspective for you. The Environmental Protection Agency has discovered that the environment indoors is now 2-5 times more toxic than outdoors.
You know what is even scarier? There is 100 times more indoor pollution than outdoors. Indoor quality has culminated in 80% of all cancers finding their cause from toxins in the environment than from a physical or genetic factor. Are you starting to think twice about how to illuminate toxins now?
Now, if you know anything about the body, we can handle a decent level of toxicity and our bodies fight it off naturally. BUT, the volume of toxins around us today puts a burden on our bodies and it is too great to be metabolized or eliminated by our bodies on its own.
Some side effects are colds, coughs, rashes, headaches, anxiety, sleeplessness, memory loss, , pain, asthma, allergies, infections, problems related to the cardiovascular and immune systems. Does not sound fun, does it?
Here are a few things that you can get started on to keep your family healthy in your own home.
What to Ditch:
Ditch the antibacterial soap. The antibacterial soap likely has triclosan in it. It has been linked to disrupt thyroid function and hormone levels.
Alternative:
Use old fashion soap and warm water; it kills just as many germs. If you do use a had sanitizer, make sure it does not have triclosan in it.
What to Ditch:
Sorry to say, your fancy fragrance or cologne most likely has harmful chemicals. Many other synthetic fragrances do as well. For instance; dryer sheets, frabic softener, cleaning supplies, candles, shampoos, deodorizers, lotions, to mane a few.
Alternative:
Want to be clean and toxic free? Use items that are fragrance free. Baking soda takes the odors out of things. There are many home remedies for making your own cleaning products, lotions, toothpastes. Be smart about what you are putting on your body or spraying into the air that you can breathe in.
What to Ditch:
Get rid of nonstick cookware. The nonstick surface is made from a synthetic material called perfluoroalkyl acid. It has been linked to ADHD and thyroid disease. Now, is the nonstick surface worth it?
Alternative:
Use coconut oil to keep foods from sticking to bakeware. It works great and I promise food will not come out tasting coconutty. You can use case iron, glass and stainless-steel cookware. Be on the safe side.
What to Ditch:
Toxic foods. You may be surprised how many different food contain toxins. Check out the food labels. Watch out for artificial flavors, hydrogenated or fractionated oils, artificial coloring, canola oil, soy, sodium chloride, aspartame, high fructose corn syrup, to name a few.
Alternative:
Stick to organic foods, grass-fed meats, and fresh produce. You want to stay away from processed foods, which are most foods that come in a package. Your body needs nutrients to keep it’s processes working correctly and to remain healthy.
What to Ditch:
Ditch the synthetic pesticides. This includes chemical weed spray, bug killers; both indoors and outdoors.
Alternative:
To prevent indoor bug problems, simply clean up crumbs, seal food containers tightly, use a caulk gun to seal anywhere pests can sneak in, and clean up messes.
